Who to Contact and How to Contact them
In handling your own public relations you can't send press releases or query letters to the head of a radio station or magazine and expect to get any actual results. While it may seem like a good idea to go directly to whoever is in charge you need to realize that they're not the ones making the initial decisions.
Whenever contact information is provided in terms of where to send a press release follow it, and follow it specifically. If the contact information says to contact the associate editor Roger Rowling then make sure that's exactly how you address your queries, using their exact title and the full name provided.
If the source is more than a few months old do some quick fact checking online and make sure that the same person you have listed is the one who holds the position that you need to direct your queries to.
